Our material is open.
Everything we teach is meant to be read, copied, translated, and improved by anyone. Course content is licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 and will be published on GitHub as it is finished.
The repository is set up and the licence is in place, but the course material is not uploaded yet. There is very little to download today.
What open source means here
Open source is a way of sharing knowledge that lets anyone view, use, modify, and distribute it freely. Applied to teaching material, it means the lessons and tools we build stay adaptable across different cultures, languages, and fields of expertise. A group in Canada or on the other side of the world can build on our work, make a local version of a course, and take it somewhere we never would have.
Why GitHub
GitHub is one of the most widely used platforms for hosting and collaborating on open-source projects. It is well documented and it is where a large community of developers, educators, and translators already works. Publishing there means people can find the current version of a resource, follow changes as they happen, and send us improvements. That holds for a private individual, a company, a government agency, or another nonprofit.
Our repository is PathwaytoHope/Learn-to-Hope. It is public, and it is being filled in as material is finished. If something you expected is not there yet, it is on the way.
Take it offline
Course material will be published so it can be downloaded and kept. Studying offline, sharing a lesson with a family member, or coming back to something months later should not depend on a good connection or on us still being around. That matters most for people in areas with patchy internet and for anyone who wants to fold our lessons into a larger program of their own.
Where this stands today: the repository holds the licence and the scaffolding, not the courses. Its own README says the content has not been uploaded yet. We would rather say that plainly than have you follow a link and find an empty folder.
When lessons are ready they will appear in the repository, and the Learn to Hope Academy is where you will be able to work through them in a browser. The Academy site is live, but no course has cleared review yet.
How this benefits everyone
Universal accessibility
Anyone with an internet connection will be able to read and download the material, which removes geographical and financial barriers.
Collaboration and innovation
People worldwide can improve on our existing work. That generates new ideas, cuts duplicated effort, and keeps the material moving forward.
Cultural adaptation
Communities can adapt resources to reflect local languages, traditions, and social norms, so the content stays relevant where it is used.
Long-term preservation
Because it sits in a public repository, the material is safeguarded for future generations regardless of changes in technology or organizational leadership.
Sustainability
Organizations can incorporate our materials into their own work and build on them without licensing fees, within the terms of the licence.
Sharing openly is how we act on the mission: take down the barriers to mental health education so people can learn from this material and pass it on.
Licence
Pathway to Hope course content is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. In plain terms, you may share it and adapt it as long as you credit Pathway to Hope, do not use it commercially, and release anything you build from it under the same terms. The licence text is in the repository.
